Common questions
Straight answers. If yours is not here, ask us.
How do I register a car with no title in California?
It depends on what record exists. If the DMV has a record, a duplicate title or transfer path applies; if there is no record, a REG 256 statement, VIN verification and possibly a bonded title are needed. Send us what you have and we identify which.
My parent passed away. How do I put their car in my name?
For most estates an Affidavit for Transfer Without Probate (REG 5), the title, a death certificate copy, and the transfer fee are enough. We prepare it and file it.
What is a bonded title?
A title issued when ownership cannot be documented, backed by a surety bond for a set period so any prior owner with a claim is protected. It is a last resort we help with when no other path works.
